This piece was featured in 'Wakelin Award 2025: Lucia Jones' at the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery. Following her selection as the award winner, the gallery invited Jones to present a solo exhibition of new and recent works, alongside three pieces officially acquired for their permanent collection.

"This work represents a more directed shift toward introspection—meeting barriers and navigating the tension of breaking away from expectations. It is autobiographical, centred on the realities of pursuing an art practice. Throughout art history, the Sun has symbolized life and creative force, but here it also functions as a clock. It is partially eclipsed by an older woman speaking down to another. This figure represents a voice that is both internal and external: the embodiment of doubt, caution, and the financial pressures that demand a 'steady' income. Behind her, time ticks away alongside the mounting pressure for the younger to reach traditional gendered milestones or simply choose an easier path. The figures sit before a cold, unforgiving marble wall - actually borrowed this texture from my grandmother’s marble coffee table. The curtain makes another appearance here—drawn shut behind the artist to conceal her thoughts in the moment, yet left wide open within the composition of the work itself.” - Jones, 2026
